Mud, by María Irene Fornés, is a series of snapshots into the lives of Mae, Lloyd and Henry, a trio living in the dirt of poverty. Mae struggles with the burden of being mother/sister/wife to the two men while also developing a burgeoning sense of self. She deals with the needs and demands they place upon her but she ultimately resolves to escape, reaching for a light intended to banish the darkness of her life.
