Students: Submit for the Frost and Dodd Play Contests!

ORIGINAL STUDENT ONE-ACT PLAYS WANTED!

Students have until 4 PM on March 30 to submit their plays for the Frost and Dodd play contests. Plays submitted with be considered for both the Frost and Dodd contests. The winning playwrights are awarded cash prizes and will then be paired with professional directors who partner in the development of these new works to be produced in July as the 2015 Eleanor Frost and Ruth and Loring Dodd Student New Play Festival. The Festival is designed to encourage and support student playwrights and to offer them the opportunity to see their scripts realized on stage. Contest rules and information can be found HERE.

 

THE ELEANOR FROST PLAY CONTEST

Eleanor Frost established the Eleanor Louise Frost Fund in 1927 to provide "an annual award for the best original play written by a Dartmouth undergraduate..." Mrs. Frost died in 1951, at 101 years of age. Her only son died while preparing for Dartmouth at the Holderness School. Her husband, Newton I. Frost, was president of the Dartmouth National Bank for many years.

 

RUTH AND LORING HOLMES DODD PLAY CONTEST

The Ruth and Loring Holmes Dodd 1900 Fund was established in 1969. The Ruth and Loring Dodd Drama Prize was first awarded in 1975 for "...the best play, one act or otherwise...by an undergraduate." Loring Holmes Dodd died in 1968.  He had been a member of the faculty of Clark University, in Worcester, Massachusetts for 39 years. For many of these years he was chairman of the Department of English and Fine Arts. In 1922, he established the Fine Arts Series at Clark, which brought talented artists in literature and theater to Worcester. Dr. Dodd was also a critic and writer in the fields of literature and theater.
