Fall 2020 Student Production Proposal Deadline

The Department of Theater believes that challenge and creativity are at the core of all great work in the performing arts. To that end, we will once again be supporting students interested in safely and prudently creating work that capitalizes on the opportunities presented by remote communication.

  • The Department of Theater will continue to support the production of remote student performance projects similar in nature to the projects above, all of which were produced during the spring 2020 term.

FALL 2020
REMOTE PERFORMANCE PROJECTS: A CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Proposal Submission deadline: Friday September 18 at 4 pm

**As of today's date (9/14/20), the Hopkins Center building remains essentially closed. Students may submit fall term performance proposals that include some kind of limited in-person component, on the understanding that the department may not be able to support the in-person aspects of the proposal. We will be evaulating proposals containing in-person components on a case-by-case basis in order to determine their feasibility in light of Hop building policies and campus-wide gathering restrictions. Please note that any changes to this plan will be announced on this webpage, so please check back regularly for updated information.**

 

The Department of Theater is seeking fall 2020 term remote student production project proposals focused on the creation of remote performance work. Examples of this type of work might include:

  • The development and performance of solo, site-specific performance projects, especially outdoors
  • Staged readings, performed via Zoom
  • The creation and recorded performance of a radio play
  • A video/spoken word archive documenting responses to current events

Where applicable and appropriate, these types of projects may benefit from faculty mentorship and/or limited financial support (maximum of $100, along the lines of a typical department Studio Lab project). Depending on the circumstances, students undertaking remote projects may be eligible to receive production credit for their work.

Students interested in proposing a remote performance project for the spring 2020 term should submit an application to the department by Friday, September 18 at 4:00 pm; proposals should be emailed to Milena Zuccotti, and should include the following information:

  • Proposal description
  • Proposed artistic collaborators
  • A vision of how the department could best support your project

Please note that in this remote environment, it is not necessary to submit a proposal specifically tailored to fit one of the department's typical student production categories (YourSpace, Studio Lab, Full Productions); just send us your idea, whatever it is!
