On a beach where the ocean has mysteriously receded, seven lives collide in the uneasy calm before a tsunami. As desire, memory, and truth rise to the surface, the boundaries between human and animal, land and sea, oppressor and oppressed begin to dissolve. Darkly comic, visceral, and politically charged, The Language of Mermaids is a fable about bodies caught between worlds - and what happens when everything we have tried to bury, collectively and individually, comes rushing back.
