Summer Theater Lab: Cultivate New Work Alongside Professional Artists
For the Department of Theater, summer is about the cultivation and development of new work, with three distinct workshop/festivals focused on theatrical collaboration and the creative process taking place on campus over the course of July and August.
THEA 65 students and Dartmouth theater alumni gather on the first day of VoxFest 2017.
About the Program
The Summer Theater Lab at Dartmouth
The Department of Theater's Summer Theater Lab consists of three distinct workshop/festivals:
- VoxLab: an alumni theater festival focused on the development of devised and experimental work
- The Frost and Dodd Student Play Festival: featuring staged readings and fully-produced productions of new plays written and performed by current students
- The New York Theatre Workshop Residency: a three-week residency for professional theater artists to workshop and develop new work
Current students participate in all three festivals as part of THEA 65: Summer Theater Lab, a remarkable and unique academic class that immerses students in performance, production, playwriting, movement, and devised and collaborative theatre techniques. Students work alongside professional theater artists, observing and participating in the creative and collaborative process, and taking advantage of a unique opportunity for experiential-based learning. Email the Academic Coordinator for details on how to enroll.
