Acting Workshop with Claudio Valdés Kuri

THE ARCH OF ARTISTIC EXPRESSION: From genuine intention to full manifestation

We invite Dartmouth students, faculty, and staff from diverse disciplines to engage in a shared exploration of embodied performance, utilizing music and voice as tools for emotional and creative expression. Claudio Valdés Kuri gives multi- and interdisciplinary workshops, designed specifically for each community according to the needs of each place and with personalized attention to the participants. Valdés Kuri is known for his unique approach to theatre, which is often characterized by multidisciplinary investigations and a focus on participants developing autoethnographic content. A key aspect of his methodology is the use of personal experiences and self-discovery as a source of material for performance. Participants will be encouraged to explore their own lives and perspectives as they delve into the fundamentals of theatrical performance.

The workshop will span one week, with four sessions (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) of three hours (6-9pm). They will be open to students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of disciplines. Using artistic and therapeutic techniques, the work emphasizes the development of both content and form. The first sessions will focus on the inquiry of the essential motivations of each individual, to later approach diverse exercises that will expand the expressive tools of the performers, allowing them to surpass personal limits in order to achieve fuller artistic manifestations.

Requirements for participants:

- Openness to inner inquiry

- Willingness for physical and vocal work

- Dress for floor work (comfortable clothing)

- Notebook and pen

- Choose one song from any musical (no prior singing experience necessary!)
