ABOUT THE PLAY AND THE PRODUCTION

In a world controlled by men, four Victorian women discover unexpected freedom in the underground subculture of women's boxing - and struggle against the limitations of that freedom. Based on historical research into 19th century women's boxing, Joy Wilkinson's electrifying new play examines gender, class, violence, and the balance of power in a corseted world.

The Sweet Science of Bruising will be performed in the Moore Theater on the following dates and times:

February 21-22 and 27-29 @ 8:00 pm

February 23 & March 1 @ 2 pm

This production will be the play's American premiere.

The production will be directed by Professor Peter Hackett; set and costume designers will be Professors Michael Ganio and Laurie Churba, respectively. Lighting design will be Jennifer Reiser '09, and sound design Jane Shaw. Fight choreographer will be Paul West, with Jenifer Karr as a boxing consultant. The production will be stage managed by Jennifer Collins Hard.
