Spotlight on "The Sweet Science of Bruising"

The winter 2020 MainStage production of The Sweet Science of Bruising opens on February 21; the production will run through March 1, on the Moore Theater stage. An American premiere of a new work written by award-winning British Playwright Joy Wilkinson, the play delves into the real-life historical sub-culture of Victorian women's boxing. The story focuses on a group of women who find themselves inextricably linked through their struggles to navigate a male-dominated sport and a correspondingly male-dominated world.

The cast and company have been immersed in rehearsals since early January, including a series of sessions with fitness professional Jennifer Karr, a trainer whose background includes a range of competitive sports, BodyCombat, and triathalons. The Hopkins Center recently reached out to Jennifer to discuss her involvement in the production; you can find that conversation HERE. The Hop is also featuring interviews with four students of the featured in leading roles: Brooke Bazarian '20, Jacqueline Byrne '22, Veronica Cavalcanti '23, and Kerrigan Quenemoen '20.
