Stephanie Greenwood ’15 at Edinburgh Fringe 2019!

Very Rascals Productions’ It’s Beautiful, Over There at Edinburgh Fringe 2019

Very Rascals Productions are pleased to announce It’s Beautiful, Over There, an original work of theatre about death, grief, and the kind of loss that changes our lives.

It’s Beautiful, Over There will be performed 3-24 August at 20:10 at Venue 13, Lochend Close EH8 8BL (next to Canongate Kirk). No performance on 7, 12, 21 August. Tickets £10, concs £8.

Stephanie’s been dealing with death all her life. This one’s different.

Writer-performer Stephanie Greenwood tells stories of deaths in her personal history — from kittens to grandparents to relatives she never met — as a means of avoiding the real topic: the loss of a dear friend to a mental illness as deadly as cancer. At the end of the hour, however, Stephanie looks her sorrow in the face and calls it by its name.

In 2009, Stephanie met Edinburgh native Lindsay Riddoch at boarding school in Wales, where they became friends and confidants. Nine years later, despite having taken extraordinary measures to confront her illness, Lindsay took her own life. In It’s Beautiful, Over There, Stephanie tells their shared story and — as best she can — Lindsay’s terribly lonely story. Lindsay’s poetry has a prominent place in the piece.

It’s Beautiful, Over There is presented in cooperation with Words That Carry On, a charitable fund established by Lindsay’s family and friends to raise funds for vital research on personality disorders, autism and complex mental health needs.

Very Rascals Productions is a new theatre company focusing on new writing. Stephanie Greenwood (writer & performer) is a graduate of Dartmouth College; she toured the UK and made her West End debut with the Soldier Arts Academy’s production of Jonathan Lewis’s Soldier On.

John-Michael MacDonald (director) is a graduate of the London International School of Performing Arts (Lispa) and directed The Nightmare Dreamer (Mead Theatre Lab, Washington DC) and The Son of Heaven, the Servant of God, and the Map of the World (Blue Elephant Theatre, Camberwell).

It’s Beautiful, Over There is Very Rascals’ inaugural production.
