The TEAM, a Brooklyn-based contemporary theater ensemble led by Tony-winning Co-Artistic Director Rachel Chavkin (director of Hadestown, Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812, Moby Dick), is in residence at the Hopkins Center working on developing their newest piece; they will be offering a free 2-hour workshop in devised theater to students on January 18. Participants will be immersed in a mini devising process and provided with tools and strategies for solo and group creation, working through delicate issues of collaboration and authorship, and bridging into the editing and synthesizing process.

Topics covered will include:

  • Moving from intellectual or thematic ideas to dynamic theatrical moments
  • Generating material through physical and written assignments
  • Cultivating an ensemble bond and navigating emotional waters amidst a process
  • Strategies for editing as a group
  • Building Dances
  • Writing on your feet (and other approaches to improvisation)

No experience necessary! Come with paper, writing implements, and a readiness to move.
