Puppetry with a Twist

Two-day workshop with world-famous puppeteer, Basil Twist! Open to all Theater students!

Dartmouth's Department of Theater is thrilled to welcome the accomplished, award-winning Basil Twist, a third-generation master puppeteer and international theater artist. Twist's most recognized work is his one-of-a-kind underwater puppetry show called Symphonie Fantastique (1998). This piece revolves around the powerful use of music, dance, and abstract art helping create an intimate show focused on the five movements of Hector Berlioz's 19th-century classical composition. Twist has built an international reputation as an audacious designer, director, and performer creating the most iconic and visionary puppetry in the world. Twist worked on films such as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) as the creator of the prototype for the eerie, spooky Dementors for the film. The Department of Theater is beyond grateful to Twist for hosting a workshop for Dartmouth students for two days where he will be introducing attendees to the puppetry world both in a figurative and abstract concept. On Saturday, the full day of the workshop, students will be divided into five groups of three in which they will create a sort of Kamikaze show experience using simple materials. Later that evening, students will present their creations to any and all who would like to come. This presentation will take place in Wilson 301 at 7:30pm. We are beyond excited to have such a talented theatermaker visit Dartmouth and open his studio to students, staff, and faculty!
