ABOUT THE PLAYS AND THE PRODUCTIONS

With infectious tunes by Stephen Schwartz and classic choreography from Bob Fosse, Pippin is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises.

The production will be directed by Shirley Jo Finney, with Keith Coughlin choreographing and Kevin David Thomas as musical director. Designers will be Dan Kotlowitz (lighting), Sasha Schwartz (sets), Laurie Churba (costumes), Ben Scheff (sound). Intimacy choreographer will be Veronica Burt '16. Additional creative team members are TBA.

Rehearsals will begin Monday September 19, 2022. Rehearsals take place five days/week, Mondays-Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Technical and dress rehearsals will take place Tuesday November 1st- Thursday November 3rd. Performance dates will be:

  • November 4-5 and 10-12 at 8 pm
  • November 6 & 13 at 2 pm

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN/AVAILABLE ROLES

Leading Player The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.

Pippin Our story's young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.

Charles Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.

Lewis Pippin's half-brother. 

Fastrada Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.

Berthe Pippin's saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.

Catherine A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.

Theo Catherine's son.

AUDITION DETAILS
No previous performance experience is necessary!

All auditioning students must sign up for an audition slot via a google info and sign-up form; that form is available HERE. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

For your audition: please prepare a cut of any musical piece, sung in any language, of no more than 1.5 minutes. It should be something you love to sing and feel passionate about singing. An accompanist will be provided if you bring sheet music in a 3 ring binder, but you may also provide your own backing track if you prefer, and a cappella auditions are also welcome. Please also choose a scene to read from the script. These possible scenes, called sides, are available HERE. Note: Choose any paragraph or character! 

Students are encouraged to read the script prior to auditions! Please contact the Production Manager or the Department Administrator for information on how to obtain a copy of the libretto.
